Department of Media Science organised a day-long event on Journalism.
The event was divided into two segments. The first segment was graced by Mr. Milind Khandekar,
Digital Editor, BBC, India. He gave a presentation on ‘Digital Newsroom and the Challenges
Ahead’, which was followed by an enthusiastic interactive session. The second segment
consisted of a workshop by Prof. Sambit Pal, Assistant Professor, IIMC on ‘Google News
Initiative’s Fact Checking Training’. There were a number of participants from various colleges
across the city.

The Department of Media Science organised its third edition of Ad Adda. It was a two-day, inter-college event, the proceedings of which are as follows:
Day 1
Ad Adda 2019 was inaugurated by Mr. Subir Ghosh, doyen of PR in West Bengal, and Mr. Biswajit Matilal, Birla Corp.
This was followed by the events for the day which is Ad Jingle, judged by RJ Smriti from Friends FM. The second on stage event was Brand Pitching. In this event, participants were given a brief by the clients. The clients being brands like ‘Chowman’ and ‘Himalaya Optical’. The participants had to create a marketing plan to fulfil the
objective given in the brief. The event was judged by Ms. Ananya, Marketing Head, Chowman; and Ms. Jaya De, Marketing Head, Himalaya Optical. Students also participated in Copywriting competition which is an off-stage event. This event was judged by Ms. Rohini Lodge, Owner, Studio Red; and Mr. Francis
Harrison, Photographer.
The events were followed by a panel discussion on the topic: “Branding, Bengal and Millennial”. The panelists were: Mr. Supriyo Sinha, ABP, Pratibha; Prof. Krishanu Rakshit, IIM Calcutta; Mr. Aji Issac Mathew, CEO, Indus Net Techshu; Mr. Francis Harrison; Mr. Arijit Dutta, Film Distributor. This was followed by a one-to-one discussion with eminent actor Rudranil Ghosh.
Day 2:
The off-stage event for the day was Quiz Competition. Film Marketing was the second event of the day. The participants had to pitch for the film ‘Debotar Grash’, directed by Mr. Saibal Mitra. The judges of the event
were Mr. Judhajit Sarkar and Mr. Saibal Mitra. The third event on day two was Sustainable Fashion Marketing. Students pitched for the brand ‘Byloom’. The event was judged by Ms. Malavika Banerjee, Co-
Owner, Byloom.
This was followed by a panel discussion, the topic of which read: “How brands are coping with digital disruption and millennial consumption pattern in the marketing communication landscape.” The panellists were Mr. Kaushik Roy, All India Marketing Head, Reliance Industries Limited; IAS Atri Bhattacharya; Pritimoy Chakraborty, CEO, Purple Studio; and Mr. Arjun Gaurisaria, Film Director.
The Heritage Academy Film Festival hosted it’s maiden online venture in its third year on 5th and 6th June, 2020.
The festival was hosted by the Dept. Of Media Science, The Heritage Academy. It saw a plethora of discussions from students participating in events like Postaar (poster-making competition), Netpix (short film making competition), Altboloji (Audio story making competition), Hungameme (Meme making competition) and Clicksart (Photography competition). These were judged and appreciated by professionals from the industry. Apart from this there were a host of eminent speakers to grace the show. Chief Guest, Director Goutam Ghose emphasized the importance of understanding the language and craft of cinema. He acknowledged the need to embrace digital technology as the future of films. Director Pratim D. Gupta discussed the process of conceptualizing a script and crafting characters. Director Srijit Mukherji spoke about his journey with the series Feluda Pherot. He took students through his process of filmmaking during films like Nirbaak and Raj Kahini. Day 2 of the festival focussed on the digital space with Arushi Kapoor from ScoopWhoop starting the day with her journey in digital media. She explained her experience of content creation for online platforms, giving students a glimpse into the industry. The final guest of the festival, Mr. Samya Bhattacharya from Netflix, discussed the nature of OTT platforms in terms of producing and selecting shows for release. He gave students much needed insight into the coveted space of web series and films on OTT platforms and digital media.

Department of Media Science organised a farewell for BMS Batch of 2016-19 and MMS Batch of 2017-19.

Mr. Francis Harrison conducted a photography workshop with BMS Semester I and III students.
On September 27, the participants of the workshop, organised a photography exhibition. Trophies were given on the basis of two categories: Creativity and Impact. Souvik Neogi of BMS Semester V won in both categories.
