Ad Adda by Department of Media Science

September 19th and 20th, 2019The Department of Media Science organised its third edition of Ad Adda. It was a two-day, inter-college event, the proceedings of which are as follows:

Day 1

Ad Adda 2019 was inaugurated by Mr. Subir Ghosh, doyen of PR in West Bengal, and Mr. Biswajit Matilal, Birla Corp.

This was followed by the events for the day which is Ad Jingle, judged by RJ Smriti from Friends FM.

The second on stage event was Brand Pitching. In this event, participants were given a brief by the clients. The clients being brands like ‘Chowman’ and ‘Himalaya Optical’. The participants had to create a marketing plan to fulfil the objective given in the brief. The event was judged by Ms. Ananya, Marketing Head, Chowman; and Ms. Jaya De, Marketing Head, Himalaya Optical. Students also participated in Copywriting competition which is an off-stage event. This event was judged by Ms. Rohini Lodge, Owner, Studio Red; and Mr. Francis Harrison, Photographer.

The events were followed by a panel discussion on the topic: “Branding, Bengal and Millennial”. The panelists were: Mr. Supriyo Sinha, ABP, Pratibha; Prof. Krishanu Rakshit, IIM Calcutta; Mr. Aji Issac Mathew, CEO, Indus Net Techshu; Mr. Francis Harrison; Mr. Arijit Dutta, Film Distributor.

Day 2:

The off-stage event for the day was Quiz Competition.

Film Marketing was the second event of the day. The participants had to pitch for the film ‘Debotar Grash’, directed by Mr. Saibal Mitra. The judges of the event were Mr. Judhajit Sarkar and Mr. Saibal Mitra.

The third event on day two was Sustainable Fashion Marketing. Students pitched for the brand ‘Byloom’. The event was judged by Ms. Malavika Banerjee, Co-Owner, Byloom.

This was followed by a panel discussion, the topic of which read: “How brands are coping with digital disruption and millennial consumption pattern in the marketing communication landscape.” The panellists were Mr. Kaushik Roy, All India Marketing Head, Reliance Industries Limited; IAS Atri Bhattacharya; Pritimoy Chakraborty, CEO, Purple Studio; and Mr. Arjun Gaurisaria, Film Director.

International Relations Lecture by Sreeradha Datta

Ms. Sreeradha Datta, Centre Head & Senior Fellow, Neighbourhood Studies, Vivekananda International Foundation, delivered a very informative and analytical talk on International Relations and Government of India.

Students and the Faculty of the Department of Media Science put up a cultural show marking the occasion of Baishe Srabon. Chief Guest for the event was Ms. Sreeradha Datta.

Discussion on Artificial Intelligence

A Panel Discussion on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence in the Real World’ was conducted. The panellists were Dr. Saurav Karmakar, President, CEO and Head of R&D, GreyKarma Technologies; Mr. Tara Shankar Jana, Sr. Technical Product Manager (Microsoft AI), Seattle, Washington, USA; Dr. Joydeep Paul, Consultant in USA; Mr. Subhasis Sanyal, Associate Director (Principal Architect), Cognizant Technology Solutions; Prof. (Dr.) Dinabandhu Bhandari, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering. The students were explained about the current scenario of Artificial Intelligence and its applications in various domains.

World Theatre Day 2019

The Heritage Academy Theatre Club on World Theatre Day had put up a show including performances not only by the students but also the faculty. The chief guest was Sraman Chatterjee, a renowned theatre actor.

International Women’s Day 2019

A panel discussion on the topic “Balance for Better” for International Women’s Day. The panellists were Patti Hoffman, US Consul General; Anju Seth, Director, IIM Joka; Sohag Sen, Theatre Personality; and Madiha Ahmed, Youth Mentor.

Rajdeep Sardesai at Heritage

India Today conducted its Kolkata series for “Campus Face Off”. Rajdeep Sardesai, Consulting Editor, India Today, moderated the show. The inaugural programme, by Mr. Sardesai, at the television studio was moderated by Dr. Madhupa Bakshi, where he shared his vast pool of experience with the BMS and MMS students.

Mirror Now at Heritage

Students and first-time voters of The Heritage Academy participated in an open discussion on the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections conducted by the television news channel, Mirror Now.

Heritage Academy Film Festival 2019

July 17, 2019: The Heritage Academy welcomed batch of 2019. Prof.SaikatMaitra, Vice Chancellor, MAKAUT was the Chief Guest. Mr.AmitabhaDatta, Director, Calcutta Media Institute, and Dr. Vikash Agarwal, Founder Chairman, Global  Cancer  Trust were the Guests of Honour. The dignitaries in attendance were Mr.Vikram Swarup (Vice Chairman, Kalyan Bharti Trust), Mr. Pradip Agarwal (CEO. Kalyan Bharti Trust), Mr.Probir Roy (Director Kalyan Bharti Trust), Dr.Gour Banerjee (Principal THA), and Dr. Madhupa Bakshi (Dean, Media Science, THA).
